Marcel, prêtre

Jean Gaumy
1994 France 42 minutes French

“It all started thirty years ago in Aurillac. I was at the time a boarder at the Institution Saint-Eugène. The priest, Marcel Puech, was then a disciplinary prefect. I was fourteen years old and this was a decisive encounter for me – in my eyes, he had become a reference, an example. In 1990, I went to film him in Auvergne, in Raulhac, his parish. This was to be an opportunity to catch up with the Marcel I had once known, but also to film the daily life of a country priest. In the end, it was above all the need to reconcile the childhood image which I had kept of him with that of the sick, fragile and somewhat absent person whom I discovered as an adult. Inevitably, I set myself the task of filming the work of time.” (Jean Gaumy).
