Masterclass Pedro Costa

150 min

Pedro Costa, a Portuguese filmmaker, former student of António Reis and close to film directors Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet and Chantal Akerman, made his first film, “O Sangre” (Blood), in 1989. Most of his oeuvre explores lives stretched between Cape Verde and Portugal, particularly the heart of Lisbon’s Fontainhas district. From one film to another, his heroes – Vanda, Ventura, Vitalena Varela… – meet and answer each other. Pedro Costa’s cinema overwhelms the spectator and constantly challenges the relationship between fiction and documentary.Masterclass hosted by Antoine Thirion
