Mineros

Erwin Göggel
1994 Colombia 24 minutes Spanish

Suesca, an Indian village in the Andes. The owning company has withdrawn its capital and closed the local coal mine, which, nearly exhausted, had ceased to be profitable. The former employees have returned to their village existence, and to survive, they continue to extract the coal using traditional methods, in highly unsafe conditions and with pitious results. Yet, despite their daily hardship, they retain a lucid dignity.
