Mortel désir
“AIDS is not the plague or cancer. It touches something visceral – sexuality. To talk of AIDS implies talking abut love and desire”. (Mario Dufour). Being an AIDS victim oneself, or having an HIV positive friend or relative has a drastic impact on one’s life. The film goes beyond commonly held ideas and methods and proposes a counterpoint to “clinical documentaries” on the disease. Men and women from various horizons talk about their experiences, but all are involved in the same struggle. It’s a struggle, says the author, between sexual desire, feelings and reason. Mortel Désir is a two part film. I love you for life, I love you until death. It highlights the eternal need for tenderness and love, and the immense desire to live despite being afflicted by the virus and the disease.
