A portrait of Edgars Kaulins, the man who saved a group of peasants during the period of deportations by founding with them the Lacplesti (bear-hunter) kolkhoz and becoming its president. “We were looking for the imprint of Kaulins’ spirit in everything we saw: in the wind that swayed the branches of a tree nearby the old castle, in the shadows of the clouds which sped over the harvested fields, and, above all, in the people whose destiny had been marked by Edgars Kaulins.” (H. Frank)
