Notebook from China

Jørgen Leth
1986 Denmark 77 minutes no words

A 6,000 km train iourney across China, punctuated by seven instalments. “Before producing the film, I told myself: I know nothing but I want to learn something!… Curiosity is what drives me in my work, it gives me energy and inspiration. I only had to observe, wait and take down notes. My cameraman, Dan Holmberg, filmed what we found interesting, strange or simply beautiful with the prospect that the days of work around the train help us ‘edit’ life.” (Jörgen Leth)
