Noua

Abdelaziz Tolbi
1972 Algeria 90 minutes Berber
DR

In 1954, rural Algerians still lived under French rule, which taxed them severely, requisitioned their land and called them up to fight in the Indochinese war. Their hopes were rekindled by the first revolutionary acts targeting their oppressors. Through the story of a young girl, Noua, the film takes a look at Algerian society in those times and underlines the ambiguous and opportunistic role of the landed bourgeoisie.
