Obrazy starého sveta

Dusan Hanák
1972 Czechoslovakia 70 minutes Slovak

Old peasants from Slovak mountains are asked about the meaning of life. “This film is about the moral force and inner beauty of our grandfathers, about values our contemporaries often lack. One cannot deny civilization and its values, but neither can one ignore the false values it creates. Caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, men today don’t know how to stop. They grow distant from themselves. What do values of life mean ? It’s essential to return to the sources -all of us, we bear within ourselves the shadows of our forgotten ancestors.” (D. Hanak) Photographs by Martin Martinček
