Oi Padkies tis Aphrodites

On the shores of Paphos where -as legend has it- the sea gave birth to Aphrodite, lives the old Charalambos. He works land that is not his own, as his childhood village, on the other side of the island is forbidden to him. In 1974, the war that ravaged Cyprus took his twenty-year-old son Antonis, cast him on the path of exile, without even a photo to his name to remind him of his youth. But Charalambos has a poet’s soul, and the talent of improvising in the old traditional style of popular poetry. It is with a poet’s eye that he recounts former times, when Greeks and Turks lived in harmony, or relates his reunion with his friend Pavlos, the flute-playing shepherd, exiled and bereaved just like himself…
