Growing old. No one can avoid it. But many worry about it, anxious because old age announces death, and in the meantime so often betokens loneliness or dependence. Is there some other way of growing old, of maintaining to the last the quality of one’s life, the ability to feel intense emotions… love, hate, loyalty, hopes of happiness… in a word, of living to the very end. The filmmaker meets the old : the weathered couples ; the solitary men and women whose relationships wore down or broke apart ; and still others who only discovered love in the heart of their seasoned age.
