Ostpreussenland – 559 km nach Kaliningrad

Andreas Voigt
1995 Germany 86 minutes Russian
DR

An eastward journey towards the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. Under German rule until 1945, the former town of Koenigsberg became a closed Soviet-controlled sector until 1991. A region profoundly marked by war, political upheavals and displaced populations. The fabric of the film is woven from encounters: Leon, the Polish tailor, Mark, the former Soviet officer and now DJ, Günther, the old German peasant who has never left the region, Walentina, the projectionist, Wera and Waldemar, driven out of Kirghizhstan… all tell their story – stories of their native soil and exile, of suffering and hope, love and death.
