Paseo a Playa Ancha
1903
Chile
3 minutes
silent
The oldest documentary ever filmed in Chile and still in existence was retrieved from oblivion and restaured at the Cinematographic Archive Center at Bois d’Arcy. The cameraman is likely to have worked with the Lumière Brothers. The cueca featured in this film is typical Chilean folklore. It seems the dance, performed on a beach in Valparaiso, was a commercial spot made for a bakery called La Victoria.
