Pictures From a Revolution

Richard Rogers
1991 United States 88 minutes Spanish

Susan Meiselas is a photographer. In 1978 she was sent by the Magnum Agency to cover the events in Nicaragua. When she returns to Nicaragua ten years later, she visits the places and interviews the people she immortalised on her photographs ten years before. The frescoes painted on the walls to glorify revolution are flaking off. People have grown old. Some are already dead or have disappeared. The younger generation’s quest for identity is difficult. The vanquished prefer not to come forward. “Photography brings time to a standstill, but for people, time flies on.”
