“Bonnard, mad about colours, light vibrations and women presence. Just as his friend Matisse, he obstinately wants to share with others the joy of life and the pleasure of painting. In his pictures, no trace of wars, revolutions and mass murders that made his time so cruel. Nothing about his doubts, except in the self-portraits. One model, Marhte, his wife whose unchanged maiden body he painted for fifty years… Sensuality first and foremost… I dedicate this film to Marthe. She was not good-tempered but she gave Bonnard the opportunity to go far in his painting work.” Alain Cavalier
