At the start of World War II, Frank Capra was asked by the US War Department to direct a series of films aimed at “motivating” young recruits and justifying the US intervention against the nazi invasion.

Réalisateur de nombreuses comédies (L’extravagant Mister Deeds, Mrs smith au Sénat, Arsenic et vieilles dentelles, La vie est belle… ) il réalise, pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, pour le ministère de la Guerre, sept documentaires dans la série Why We Fight.
