Rewind and Play

In 1969, Thelonious Monk recorded a programme for French television, “Jazz Portrait”. The rushes show us the unused shots and what happened before the call for “action” and after the “cut”… what emerges is a Thelonious Monk up close, grappling with the stereotypes he is trying to escape.

Alain Gomis

Born in 1972 in Paris, France, Alain Gomis studied art history and film. After making videos and short films, his first feature film L’Afrance (2002) won the Silver Leopard at Locarno. His last film Félicité was shown at the Competition section of the 2017 Berlinale.
