Rond-Point Chatila

Maher Abi Samra
2004 Lebanon 51 minutes Arabic

Shatila camp in Beirut. The inhabitants stroll down the main street and stop awhile at Halim’s greengrocery. They go over all their painful memories or put together improbable departure plans, as if neither their thoughts nor their acts had their place in the present. They criticize the NGO visitors and especially those who show them round for the ?20-year commemoration of the massacres… They arrive with no solution to the camp’s immediate needs. And so, a spontaneous demonstration takes place to shouts of “We want electricity!”
