Salinas

Raimond Rühl
1960 Germany 9 minutes

Salt harvesting at a large Mediterranean salt works. Angular images, composed with a few clear lines of force. On the surface, this film is a depiction of a pre-industrial process. But it becomes increasingly suggestive of an existential allegory, in which workers are condemned to perform a never-ending, Sisyphean task in a salt desert.
