In the wake of the American attack on Saipan in 1944, the Japanese decided to evacuate the civilian population of Okinawa, most and foremost the children, on board the Tsushima Maru. On August 21st, 1944, the ship was sunk by a torpedo. Thirty-three years later, survivors and families of disappeared people return on the very spot where it happened.
