The strength of Days of Rain lies mainly in the fact that Andreas Hartmann has focused on the destiny of the Lês, a farming family, at a critical turning point in their life, after their house has been destroyed by flooding. Filming a microcosm reveals a macrocosm. Not only are the story amplified and the characters enlarged, but the frame also gains in density, clarity and tension. In the clay of the foundations of their new house, which they are building themselves, between the almost centenarian grandmother and the son to whom the film is dedicated, all of Vietnam is present, the Vietnam of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
