Talk 16

Janis Lundman
1991 Canada 110 minutes English

On the first of January, five Canadian teenagers make wishes. Lina wishes she will find a boyfriend within the next months. Erin wants to be a model and Helen wants to be a doctor. Astra would like to find a job and Rhonda announces she will be the first black actress in Canada. They do not know one another but they share a point in common: the five of them will be sixteen in 1991. Now they must leave their childhood forever. They will see great changes take place in their bodies. In Canada, sexual intercourse becomes legal from the age of 16. The filmmakers have kept track of the young girls’ feelings, their impatience, their failures and their distress. One feels that some luck, or meeting the proper people, would be enough to help those young girls achieve their dreams.
