Tanjuska is a 12 years old White-Russian schoolgirl, with a face like an icon. Two years ago she stopped eating, then talking and finally she even stopped growing. Tanjuska’s father, a former mechanic at a textile factory, now lives with Tanjuska in North-East Estonia within a religious community led by Father-Vasily. Tanjuska’s mother and little sister have stayed in White-Russia, a thousand kilometers away. Father-Vasily has explained to the family that seven devils have made home inside Tanjuska. These Devils are giving her orders. Only a daily ceremony lasting for hours on end can force the Devils to leave the girl and only the power of the cross and the beating of a belt makes these Devils shiver.
