The Writing in the Sand

Amber Films
1991 United Kingdom 43 minutes English

It suddenly starts raining. In England, a day spent on the beach always finishes with a bit of rain. The memories that still linger on this beach are full of splashing waves, ice-cream scones spotted with grains of sand, sandcastles threatened by the rising tide and innocent games. Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen photographed for seventeen years the coast of the north-East of England and tried to recapture each vanished mood. The sound track resounds with laughter, shrill cries, splashes, stories told by grandmothers and silly little songs.
