Thierry, portrait d’un absent

François Christophe
1993 France 52 minutes French
DR

In 1972, at the age of fifteen, Thierry was the main character in Bernard Bouthier’s film, La Bande, which revealed the boy’s liveliness, intelligence and rebellious nature, marked by a difficult family background. After spending his adolescent years wandering around France with a rucksack, he got caught up in the vicious circle of drugs and prison, unable to shake off his weariness with life and claiming his downfall to be a form of freedom. In December 1991, Thierry, a Parisian of no fixed abode, died of an overdose, anonymously and amidst total indifference. His family and his close friends bear witness.
