Un peu de Bedoin

Waldeck Weisz
2000 France 29 minutes French

A year in Bedoin, at the foot of the southern slope of the Ventoux. The marvel of seasons unfolding as chapters of a film in which chronicles and memory echo in reply to each other. Waldeck Weisz keeps watch on the country paths for the signs sent to us by nature and people. Around cherries and grapevines, an ancestral destiny is yet being played out, amidst the torments of a changing rural world. With the sounds and colours of Europe in a Provençal village at holiday time, the filmmaker mingles the voice of his family’s memories of the Occupation in Marseilles, and the echoes of teenage holidays in the 1950s. One year with six scansions: the great sleep, cherry blossoms, the harvesting, the holidaymakers, the grape harvesting and All Saints’ Day. A world full of sensitivity, whose story unfolds through light, storm, dance, grape cutting, rain, wind and crowds.
