In Orleans, in 1181, a pogrom took place after public rumor accused Jews of having killed a child. In 1969, were it not for the public media, six Jewish shopkeepers might have faced such an unfortunate fate. Twelve years later, the people in Orleans have quashed the story, were it through oblivion or for fear for the city’s fame. Twelve years later, it can still be heard that after all “ther’s no smoke without fire”.
