In Abidjan, “Rolex the Portuguese” and his companions aged 15 to 25 make their living off the informal economy, particularly from online “grazing” scams that exploit the largesse of white women yearning for love and strong sensations.

Joël Akafou

Born in 1986 in Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire, Joël Akafou graduated from the Master’s in Cinema Directing at the Ouagadougou Institut Supérieur de l’Image et du Son, Burkina Faso. He has made several short school films, both documentary and fiction, including Nourah, selected for several festivals in Africa. Vivre Riche is his first professional documentary film. He has since directed Traverser, released in theaters in France in January 2022.
