Vlast’ Soloveckaja

Marina Goldovskaya
1988 Russia 93 minutes Russian

A very special labour camp in DSolovki: an ancient monastery first converted into a convict prison camp in 1923 and then into a sinister “special prison” in 1937. Against a backdrop of archive images, some rare survivors relate their long sejourn in Solovki and the terrible treatment meted out to them by prison guards and authorities. As every new internee was warned: at the camp, Soviet law was replaced by Solovki law.
