A black seventy-year old woman, who late in life has become a toilet attendant in a Chicago night-club, recounts her life over a background of blues music. Her poor childhood in Oklahoma, her unhappy marriage, the difficult time of war and the various ups and downs in her life have not harmed her remarquable tenacity and will to live.
