Wo a Bele – Morinaka

Daisuke Bundo
2004 Japan 30 minutes French

“Wo a Bele, they are in the forest”: since 1996, the Baka tribe in Cameroon has welcomed the Japanese ethnologist who is “studying” and filming them. It is what is termed a “field”. The ethnologist wonders what it is in sound and light, in life’s sensations and events, that he can share with them. Voice and gesture can no longer be described in words, and the subtle differences and similarities between “here” and “there” escape language. But the study has to try and show something. Can the relationship between one another-which is the third area of the study-be made visible?
