End of Life

Paweł Wojtasik
John Bruce
2017 United States 91 minutes English

Trained to accompany people nearing the end of their lives, the directors followed five people in their final stages and tried to answer the question of what a “good death” could be. The result is a film made of long sequence shots, of sensations of movement and light with brief flashes of consciousness which make us feel that, even after these weakened bodies and minds have gone, love will still be there. Querying our gaze upon death, the directors also ask us what happiness is and how we can confront the most intense experiences of our lives. Far from being a record of a morbid experience, this documentary opens onto a potential renewed happiness. (Lev Khvostenko)
