Thirty years after Cameroonian independence, the end of the Cold War and the political changes taking place around the world inspire a generation of Africans to descend in the streets to challenge the one-party state and its attendant nepotism, corruption, and economic failure. Mixing past and present, challenging dominant historiography, Afrique, je te plumerai establishes a cause and effect between yesterday’s colonial rule and today’s violence and corruption. A personal reflection on the ongoing chaos in Cameroon, it focuses on the written word, once a tool of colonial domination, as a potentially liberatory force.
