As South Sudan hangs in the balance of a peace agreement, a mother and her two daughters return from exile. While the mother becomes central to a new government, her daughter’s struggle to come to terms with what it means to call South Sudan home.
Akuol de Mabior is born in Nairobi, Kenya. She is the daughter of the late John Garang de Mabior (leader of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army and the first Vice President of Sudan) and Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior, a South Sudanese politician, fighter for peace in a war torn country and an advocate for women’s equality. After spending years modelling, Akuol returned to Africa to pursue her studies, currently teaches at the University of Cape Town and actively learning about keeping bees and creating products from beeswax. No Simple Way Home is her first film.
