A Ming

Alessandro de Toni
Matteo Parisini
2005 Italy 23 minutes Italian

He comes from northern China and entered Italy illegally. He’s looking for work.. any job will do, whatever the wage. He lives in an attic and shares the odd meal with a friend who gives him advice on how to survive with no identity papers. They discuss the differences between the Chinese from the north and those from the south, those who are “experienced” and those who are less “in the know”. In the Milan streets, he keeps an eye out for police whenever he visits the small club, which provides both mah-jong and valuable information. There, he finds a few hours of respite from his solitude.
