“I opened a book, Austerlitz by W.G. Sebald. There, I made the acquaintance of Jacques Austerlitz, a historian of English art, a brilliant non-conformist, with paradoxical ideas…. Austerlitz goes from Antwerp to London, from Paris to Marienbad, from Prague to Terezin ghetto in search of his true identity. Me, I go from page to page, searching for my way in the labyrinth of his story, his words and his trompe l’œil images, this fiction made of raw fragments torn from reality. Our two journeys overlap. While exploring with Austerlitz the curious distortions of European space and time, I watch him plunge into the abyss of history to bring back the debris of his lost memory. And mine too.” (Stan Neumann)
