On the evening of 28th March 1997, a patrol boat from the Albanian navy, used by emigrants, sunk in international waters after colliding with an Italian navy corvette that was trying to force it to turn back. Thirty-four passengers were rescued. Krenar Xhavara tells of that terrible night. His voice is calm and clear, as he sits at a table with his back to the ocean. Archive footage lets us hear the survivors’ cries recorded by television cameras. As far as he and the other survivors remember, there had been at least one hundred people on board. The court finally cited fifty-eight drowned. The injustice of this tragedy, typical of our times, still remains to be told.
