La Commission de la vérité

The Truth Commission

Before 1994, South Africa had never experienced democracy, which meant the country had to invent its own model. This task was the job not only of the new government, but of all South Africans. To achieve this goal, the country’s different communities, all embittered and divided by apartheid, needed to become reconciled. One of Nelson Mandela’s first decisions was to set up the Truth Commission, as reconciliation was unthinkable without first judging, “healing” and exorcising what had happened in the past. story of the Commission’s ups and downs and its workings are what underlie the making of this film. Needless to say, this new era in South Africa’s recent history bears many lessons for the future of other countries.
