A pioneer of Syrian cinema, an inventor, technician and director of the first Syrian talking film, Nazir Chahbandar (Light and Shadow, 1948) watches over the semi-ruined studio he built in the 1940s. A fragile, determined figure with a passion for cinema. “Today, what remains of the film and sound laboratories he created in the 1940s coexists with the forge that his sons built on the site where their father shot his first film Light and Shadow. Nazir Chahbandar knew that his sons were waiting for him to die, in order to get rid of what remained of the laboratory, the studio and the projection hall and transform everything into a forge.” Mohamed Malas
